The North Park EcoDistrict initiative serves as an umbrella for all the amazing efforts that are happening in our neighborhood while setting the stage for the future. From our unique business community characterized by farm-to-table and conscientious restaurants, locally-focused mindful boutiques and creative arts and services to our truly engaged community; North Park has it going on!
All of these efforts were recognized and re-energized when North Park EcoDistrict was chosen to represent San Diego at the 2013 EcoDistricts Incubator hosted by EcoDistricts, formally known as the Portland Sustainability Institute. The EcoDistricts Incubator is a three-day executive level training program for leaders who are improving their cities from the neighborhood up. It was held last week, May 29-31st in Portland, OR. North Park EcoDistrict applied to participate and was selected along with only 7 other cities. So last week our NP EcoDistrict team; made up of North Park Main Street, San Diego Gas and Electric and the San Diego Green Building Council; spent three days learning from the best and brightest about how to implement the EcoDistricts’ Framework. Along with teams from around the country, we learned about EcoDistricts from the nation’s leaders in green communities and explored Portland’s EcoDistricts. The best part of it was that each day we strategized and dreamed big with the North Park EcoDistrict itself.
We’re home now and eager to work with the community to apply all we learned.
