3813 Ray Street, San Diego, CA 92104. Retail/Interior Design/Multi-use
Glimpse is housed in a multi-use space at 3813 Ray Street home to an interior designer, massage therapist, reiki practitioner, intuitive/happiness coach and landscape designer. Glimpse is the front shop featuring Mindful Products for Home*Body*Gift. That means most products are eco-friendly, fair-trade, local or handmade.
THE STORY: When I first moved into Ray Street, we wanted to create a multi-use space for small, like- minded entrepreneurs interested in supporting each other’s success. I wanted the businesses to support a “whole”istic approach to life. I am an interior designer that creates inspiring interiors that enhance your well-being. As a person, I live my life “awake”, which means I live consciously and joyfully. I recycle, use green cleaning products and think about what I am doing prior to doing it unconsciously.
I wanted to open a retail store that promoted the idea of being awake and mindful in your life. Most of my vendors either use green practices, create eco-friendly products, are produced locally and/or support charitable endeavors. All of my art is by local artists. As a multi-use space, we recycle, use green cleaning products and low-VOC paints. I encourage my customers to think about what they are purchasing by explaining my mission as a store: Mindful Products. If they are going to purchase a candle, I explain why it should be soy and essential oil because is less toxic to the environment and their health and to reuse the container once the candle has burned down.
My challenges have been finding sources that offer a variety of products for home, body and gift that are eco, green, local or hand-made so that Glimpse is fresh and unique for the customer.
OUTCOMES: The implications have been positive. The multi-use space has helped our small businesses grow during a less than stellar economy. My green practices support a healthier planet and environment. I enjoying knowing that I am also supporting other small vendors that are living life consciously by using green practices, producing eco-friendly products, making items locally and/or by hand. By supporting these types of businesses through purchasing from them, I am financially investing in my beliefs.
I encourage other business to adopt at least some green practices: recycle definitely, use green cleaning products, which is better for the planet and the repertory health of their employees.
THE PATH: I used my experience as an interior designer to assist with my green practices within the physical location. I did research on the internet to find many of my eco/green sources.
